even the extra large giant size cat box isn't big enough! I had this really cool litter box- one of manually operated self cleaning litter boxes- but the poor boys too big! he hangs out the front! :o so naturally I went low tech- just bought one of those flat pan cat boxes- and he's still too big- I think- he can turn around in it- but prefers to use the edges to lean- did I mention I have not a normal cat but a small bobcat?? :)

Hi,

I had a similar problem in my household with Zach. He was overshooting the litter box and he too is rather large at 14#. I found the somewhat new Rubbermaid high sided litter pans at Petsmart and they are great. Here's the link:

Good grief that's a long link! Anyway, they work great at containing the litter that sometimes get's kicked out too!

And truthfully that is just one of the problems with the automatic litter boxes. The box seems large as its bulky but the actual space that the cat has to use is quite small.

Take care, Lynn

I had that problem when ^Pudd^ was alive... I did find one (can't remember where sorry!) that had really high sides and was x-tra large and it was covered because he was a litter thrower.

You could try buying one of those wide, flat rubbermaid storage containers. If he's too big for that, then you have a problem! LOL.

My Tasha is 15lbs, and her box just barely holds her. Poor thing. She's got a big frame for a female cat, but I'm still trying to reduce her weight because unfortunately there is no denying she is F-A-T!

You know, my mom's cat is only 8lbs, and she goes over the edge of the box regularly. She just likes to back up into the corner, and doesn't care if she's going over the edge or not. But the suggestion of getting a big flat rubbermaid container is one I've heard can work well. It'll give him plenty of room to turn around in.

Although none of my cats are really big, Scamp and Fuzzy seemed to take up a lot of the litter box and had a hard time getting comfortable, so I got a big Rubbermade type box for them.
