Neurotic Tendencies

Hi all, my little one that had a UTI a while back and i put him on antibiotics and he got his symptoms back two fold last week and i put him back on a weeks worth of meds at the vet's request as long as i promised to give him an additional week after to see if the problem has cleared up and the older cat (7 y.o.) who is HORRIBLY neurotic since I've had him since he was three weeks old and just this weekend - i live in a cottage in the woods and it's been damp and now very muggy in CT and they are indoor cats but it's very buggy there - he has obsessively been licking his hind legs, his tail and then almost gnawing at the skin around his anus. It's as if he goes on these tangents and then again, he'll just lay down next to me and sleep for hours so it's not something chronic that is keeping him from sleeping. He's had obsessive neurotic behavior since he was a kitten. One of my vets once told me that cats can tend to take on their owner's behavior and after a minute i stopped and thought "Hey, wait a minute..." So, i checked out his anus and it didn't look too inflamed but it was pinkish and i think that's from the constant licking. Anybody have any take on this?

Thanks for your input. As for allergies, it could be a definite possibility. The pollen count is extremely high this year with all the rain and immediate onset of summer...I don't know if i've specifically noticed that he's demonstrated this particular behavior in the past but he definitely has "issues" (refusing to let me hold him when the "other" cat is in the same room and has to be able to see me at all costs if i am around - via mirror, or peering into the shower, has learned to open up my bedroom door via doorknob if i shut him out....LOL); I've started monitoring him and he demonstrated this behavior when i stayed at a friend's house overnight...he panics if i don't come home - vacations are brutal eventhough they are cared for at my place while I'm away....I'll keep an eye on him and hate the thought of bringing him to the vet eventhough it's only two miles away...I'm usually covered completely in fur and he's so traumatized by the whole thing. I'll keep you informed of the outcome. Thanks again!

Hysterical! At least I know I'm not alone now! My Peanut, has a cow print and i was wearing a dungaree shirt and i could not even see any blue when i looked down at my shirt as i walked out of the vet's office! Also, my vet is only 2 miles away and that is a painful two miles with him screaming and crying so loud in the car that i can't hear the radio AT ALL!
