She wants to "market" these miniature cats? On the internet????? Unbelievable. I guess it is no different than experimenting with toy breeds of dogs and then "marketing" them, but I seriously have issues with that too. I don't believe animals are something that should be "played" with and "altered" so that they fit some condition that may be desirable to a human.

It's like somebody saying, "well, I don't want my baby to be 8 lbs at birth. I think it would be extremely cool if it was only 2 lbs, but perfectly healthy". The very notion is ridiculous! Why shouldn't it be considered ridiculous in the animal world too?

This woman is acting as though she'd just invented some new fad toy. It's a living thing!!! Not a Beanie Baby!

And BTW - that poor little kitten!!! Obviously it is a product of this woman's 25 years of fooling with nature. Nature takes care of itself -- it doesn't need, or WANT, our help!!!

This is a lot like the new cats that are allergy free. I'm sure you guys have heard of that. I think it is all very sicko. Why can't people enjoy the wonder and joy of animals as they are? They are miraculous enough without one bit of alterations.

I agree this is very sick. A lot like those "munchkin" cats as well. I have heard about the "allergy" free cats where the theory is to "knock out" the gene which causes the allergy-causing protein. There is the danger that the gene plays a crucial role in some other part of the cat's metabolism so that removing it could cause disease in the cat e.g. affect its immune system. In some laboratory animals, knocking out genes has had the side effect of promoting cancers.

Supposedly, Siberian cats are hypoallergenic but I've heard that it's more hype and myth than truth. When people are allergic to cats they are actually allergic to the Feld1 protein in the cat's saliva, not the hair. Of course the longer the hair the more cleaning the cat has to do thus more saliva on it's coat which then gets deposited around your house and on your clothes. Some say that the Siberian produces less of the Fel d 1 allergen than other cats. This has not been verified in all lines of Siberian. If you're going to spend the money on a purebred cat in order to avoid allergies it would be best to spend time with the cats before acquiring one to test out their supposed hypoallergenic quality. Additionally, some people are allergic to other feline proteins that are found in the saliva and dandruff of that breed. Researchers at Long Island College recently conducted a survey of 350 patients to find out if allergies may be related to the color of an animal’s fur. The investigators found patients owning a black or dark-colored cat were six times more likely to have moderate allergy symptoms than patients owning a light-colored cat. Although more research needs to be done, the researchers speculate dark-colored cats may produce more Fel d 1 than light-colored cats.

Of course I was diagnosed with cat allergies in the fall of 2001 and what do I have at home and they sleep with me? That's right, two little black longhaired cats. Yes, many would say I am insane.....but I take allergy shots and daily meds, vacumn a lot and love them to death! :)

I prefer to not mess with mother nature as I believe all living things are miracles just the way they are. I also refuse to eat genetically modified food. I also prefer to obtain my animals from a shelter or rescue group and I like just good old mutts and alley cats.

This isn't too far from where I live. I think it's awful what this lady is doing.

While I don't agree with the practice of activly trying to mutate animals through breeding for size or colour or anything else I think you guys are all forgetting a couple things while you are going on about how this lady should be shot.

1)There are occasionally animals born with such defects. If you watch Amazing Animal Videos on Animal Planet you may have seen the story of the pig who also had two faces. They also like to run storries about animals who are born with extra limbs or even extra heads. There are even soemtimes children born with these defects. This is not necessarily a result of her poor breeding practices. Chances are if it was a result of poor breeding practices then we would be hearing about more than one case of such a kitten.

2)Any of you who have pure bred cats need to remember that at one time somebody did exactly what this lady is doing. They bred their animals for size or colour or even a personality trait. Every pure bred breed of every animal has undergone this process of breeding for trait to become what it is today.

THIS KIND OF BREEDING IS WRONG THAT WHY WE HAVE SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH SOME ON OUR BREEDS NOW. IF THIS KITTEN WAS BORN IN THE WILD THE MOTHER WOULD OF KILLED IT THEY WELL NOT TAKE CARE OF MISFITS. WHAT KIND LIFE WELL THIS CAT HAVE IF IT LIVES.JOANN

Turdle,

WHile the 2 faced cat MAY not be a direct result of her experimentation, it is likely it is. DO you know how many "opps" animals are made while trying to create a new breed? Even if it is not a direct result, she has been playing with genetics for 25 years. Wanna bet if we had the full history we could find problems she generated? She needs to go to jail. I never said "shot", others have. As for pure breeds, I am dead against them. Go out to my website (www.coolcybercats.com) and to the photos page, then look for the movie link on why I am against pure breeds... Better yet, here is the link: http://www.coolcybercats.com/movies/Cats.wmv

I think pure breeds are wrong and many have genetic faults that people accept as okay purely because they want the breed. How about we start a pure breed program for people? Oh, wait... Hitler tried that and soe some odd reason people said THAT was wrong, but not for other animals... Go figure.

Is the Aby's biggest problem still amlyoidosis? Well, that and their teeth. Our "baby" Colorpoint has got horrific renal failure - entirely amlyoidosis - and will likely be dead before he turns 6. Then again, Meezers and OSH kind of shared their crummy teeth with the Aby's.

Last I knew (ages ago) mini cats were somewhat related to Munchkins - which at least in some lines, are so genetically screwed up, they fall over dead by 18 months. Including upwards of 50% chance of RH in the kittens. Sorry, but that's NOT what you want to be breeding for.

As for purebred cats - I don't know. I miss my Meezies something awful and would LOVE to get another seal point or two. ^^Mina^^ and ^^Jonathon^^ were my two favorite cats and will always be. I think we'll wait until we've lost at least some of our sickies, but I don't know. But, if we ever get another seal point Meezie, yes, it's name will be Harker.
