Hi!Am new to this board. Its good to find a place like this.Am writing in from India (Madras).Dogs are very popular pets here but not many people have cats .But the ones who do are crazy about them - its the same everywhere i guess.
Its not easy to find people you can bore to death about your babies! So thats why its great to find this board.
I'll be shifting house in a few weeks time (still looking for a place, difficult to find but thats another story)and I am very worried about my 4 - tough guy, snowball, inji(which means ginger) and lil girl.
Any tips? How long will it take them to get used to the new place? They are all outdoor cats so I'm worried they might lose their way or something.

Hi guys. Thanks for the welcome.I have lost cats earlier - got lost or attacked by dogs or just plain disappeared.I cant even begin to describe the pain, but I guess you know how it feels. So yes I would love to make my cats indoor cats -please let me know how.I make sure to bring them all inside at night, but keeping them inside all the time would be ideal. Also the 4 of them are not the best of buddies!Different schedules and agendas!Well heres some more on my 4 -
Tough guy - Almost 8 yrs old, male.Black with a white underside. anything but tough-hence the name!My first ever cat.His mom left him at my doorstep,I fell in love with him and thats how all this crazy cat business started..All my other 3 cats keep away from him, they are scared of him.Loves sleeping on my lap,but hes kind of half wild.Hes my sweet boy.
Snowball- beautiful, pure white,female,5 yrs old.My first cat that I got-from a shelter.Very intelligent. Will sleep cuddled up to me every night.Very vocal- she speaks to us.In different tones.Goes all cross eyed when shes mad at us!She trusts me completely even when I am doing nasty things to her like shoving pills down her throat or putting some cream/ointment on her.
Inji/Ginger - 4 yrs old, brown, female.Kind of dumb but so cute and pretty!Shes snowballs daughter. The first and only cat born at home. That toojust a week before her mom was due to be spayed! We never even knew till we heard some tiny cries late one night! One of the happiest days of my life.
Lil girl - The youngest.3 yrs old, white and brown, bushy tailed. Some pedigree mix. From a shelter.Practically mute, very scared of strangers.Loves to stay close to us at all times and follows me everywhere across our home.Always comes when called.Has her special palce to sleep next to the DVD player.
Gosh!I have been going on &on ,but its nice.So guys do let me know how to convert these creatures to indoor cats.

I started to write a great post about the indoor transition but have been called away for something at work.

Rena gave you some fantastic ideas! I just wanted to add that my Tasha (pictured below in my siggy), used to be an outdoor cat with her previous owners (she was over 6 years old when I adopted her). I live in an apartment, on the third floor, so I couldn't let her out even if I wanted to - which I don't because I know what it's like to have a cat run away.

I thought she would be upset at first, but I think she was just so absorbed with checking out her new place that it took her a good long while to even notice she was being kept indoors, so as Rena said, the move will probably be a great time to ease your cats into the indoor transition. It was literally months before Tasha even went to the balcony door and cried! But she only even does that now on the rare occasion - 99.9% of the time she seems perfectly content just looking out the window, rather than crying at it.

Cats adjust very quickly, the important thing is not to give in if they cry at the door for a few days. Lure them away with a toy, and show them that "indoors" can be just as much fun as "outdoors".

Good luck!
