So many people have expressed disbelief and horror at what people can do to animals because of Teddi. I have received many emails and posts on many boards questioning the story or people believing that this is rare and that only a few individuals like to do this. This is just not the case. This kind of thing happens all the time, but we either close our eyes to it, do not pay attention or do not want to hear it. Denying a problem does not make it go away, in fact it will only escalate the issue.

It just sickens me. How is a person raised that they would grow up to be such a monster!!

I know these sickos exist, and as much as I almost feel like turning a blind eye to avoid feeling bad about it, I know that that does absolutely nothing to help solve the problem. If you do nothing then you are just as guilty as the the offender because you are letting them get off scot free.

About a year ago (I even posted it here I think), I was thinking about taking the Animal Welfare course developed by both the BC SPCA and the University College of the Caribou in Kamloops, BC. You can complete it through distance ed and it prepares you for many careers working with animals (focusing on the non-profit side), but its main purpose was to train people to work as animal welfare officers. These are the people on the front lines who are out there conducting cruelty investigations, busting puppy mills, and seizing abused and neglected animals. The only thing holding me back from taking the course was a very strong fear that I couldn't handle that kind of stress - if I had a job like that I'd be coming home in tears every single day. It's lingered in the back of my mind ever since, and I still don't know if I could do it.

Maybe I should just take the course and see where it leads me. I don't necessarily have to try and get a job on the front lines - the SPCA and other groups have need for people in the background too.
