Hi everyone,
I popped on here last fall and started the process for WLS but then I chickened out. After trying on my own for a bit with now result, I realized that WLS is the way I need to go. If I haven't lost weight by now (I'm 41) then I'm never going to do it on my own! I've met with most of the people that I need to meet with at the Bariatric program at the hospital. I need to meet with the nutritionist again on June 4th and if that goes well I get my appt with the surgeon and then a date. I'm still trying to decide which surgery to have between gastric bypass and lap band. I was leaning towards bypass but it makes me so nervous. The lap band worries me only because it is a much longer weight loss, and I have several major health issues from my weight, plus I live 2 hour from the hospital and it would be hard for me to have to go in for fills all the time. So, those are two things I need to think about for now.
I was wondering if people could give me a background on their surgery or upcoming surgery? Or is there already a thread? I'm just wondering things like which surgery did you/will you have and why? How much weight have you lost in what amount of time? How are you feeling after surgery? And anything else I am forgetting.
I plan on sticking around this time. :)

Hi Wendy!
I'm Alice, I'm 37.
Hey, girl!! I know we chat everyday (lol) but I am VERY happy that you came back to the board to post. I know you've been back and forth about the whole WLS process.
You know I can preach all day about how the RNY saved my life (I feel) even though I didn't have any co-morbidities. I haven't had any "complications" with the surgery unless you want to count the chronic constipation that has resulted. It is a simple remedy for me to take Metamucil (I prefer Miralax but that isn't allowed while I'm pregnant).
I'm happy that you'll stick around!
Hi Wendy!!
I am in the very early stages; you are ahead of me in the process. I am leaning towards the RNY for the reasons you described (shorter weight loss, etc). I have also done some "personal" research by interviewing several people I know who have recently gone through WLS and they've all had RNY and have no regrets.
I looked at all the options and chose the sleeve.
I want to thank everyone for their feedback. Right now, between my insurance company and the hospital I'm using my only options are lap band and gastric bypass. Last night I thought I had changed my mind to the bypass and today I am back to lap band. It's soooo hard to decide.
I have Type II Diabetes (insulin dependent), high bp and sleep apnea. Just the thought of losing enough weight to not need my CPAP to sleep with anymore and cutting down or cutting out insulin would be a dream.

Do research on the post-ops in lap band and RNY with diabetes.
