Dumping???

I found out I do dump yesterday-- I have had a few episodes where I thought I might have been dumping- once on grapes. But yesterday I had not had my snack and was making homeade bannana bread (3/4 cup sugar + sugar from 3 bannanas) and I decided to lick the spoon of the batter- it tasted super sweet but I knew as soon as I had eaten it that it might cause a problem and I quickly made a protein shake and started drinking it.

I dump on any kind of fat, especially sausage and pepperoni. I dumped on fats before surgery due to my gallbladder surgery and not being able to digest it properly. I could tell the quality of a fastfood hamburger by whether or not I could make it out of the restaurant without making a trip to the bathroom. It goes through my system very quickly. It's nice occasionally when I feel a little constipated but make sure I am near a bathroom. Yes I will eat some of these trigger foods on purpose when I need a little help. Once the food is out of my system I feel fine.

I don't "dump" but sugars and carbs make me feel dizzy, light headed, "off", sleepy, nauseaus, and overall just gross!

Wendy

From my understanding the symptoms you get from carbs are a form of dumping syndrome- not everyone gets bad diarrhea.

I'm sorry Alice! I have never experienced dumping syndrome but for most people it will be triggered by sugar, fat and/or textures. My support group leader had a major issue with textures of food and drinks. He cannot drink plain water after surgery at all. He has to flavor it with something.

My biggest side effect of surgery continues to be severe constipation. I still have to take medicine daily in addition to adding extra fiber to my diet (Fiber One cereal) and I am still in a ton of pain on a daily or everyother day basis due to it. Ugh.

I've had no issues with bacon and I did start out with turkey bacon for the first few months after surgery but then switched to regular as I am only having a strip or two at a meal.

Yay for being so close to onederland. I know for me that was the greatest feeling! Congrats to you and Wendy for being so darn close!!!

I haven't experienced an all-out dumping episode, yet.

Oh my goodness I will try anything at this point. I really can't stand it. At least when I wasn't pregnant I could take Miralax everyday but now I have to take Metamucil but it doesn't really help.

Thanks!!

Hey Melissa... A friend of mine's daughter was having a really difficult time going potty too, and they told her to give her probiotics!

I take probiotics every day since surgery and haven't had any constipation problems.
