Or do you have loved ones from that area? Let us know.

You might remember Cat5cane, she posted here with some frequency for a while but hasn't been around lately; she's in the south (if you remember her you probably figured that out from those great expressions she uses). I've put out an email to her to find out if she and her family are all right, but haven't heard back yet. I'll keep you posted.

I'm thankful that your family is okay, so many are not. I hope your co-worker hears from her sister if she hasn't heard yet. I heard this morning they're still plucking people off rooftops today. I just don't understand that, I can't see that there is any excuse for people to still be waiting on rooftops for rescue at this late date. That should have been handled on day one or two. Not America's proudest moment to be sure. I for one am outraged at the response -- or lack of.

I think I've found Cat5cane! After sending email to her and getting no response, I started checking Hurricane Katrina survivor websites and found her name on a Red Cross list in the city that she's in. Really hoping it's really her and that she and her family are all right.

Cat5cane is found!

After eight days of searching "I'm safe" websites and Red Cross shelter lists, connecting by phone and email with "real-time" friends of hers (found them as they were posting on those sites looking for her themselves), we (her friends and I) got an email from her today! Her house is standing and has had power for about a week, but no DSL or phone service. The public library just opened temporarily so she went in to send out some emails, and I'm so glad she did! Her job is gone (I assume the building has been destroyed) but she's found other work to get her by for now and is working hard at it already. She's a strong woman and a survivor, for sure.

She and her family are safe and that's the most important thing. So many have not been so lucky. Thought you'd want to know.
