Match.com questions...

Has anyone figured out if there's any rhyme or reason to some things about how Match.com works?

For example, I occasionally get emails from people saying "I saw you online..."

Now, I have read here that people say that once you log in, you might appear as "online" even up to an hour after you log out. But occasionally I'll get those emails a LONG time after I was online, or even when I wasn't online at all! WTH?

(I even thought maybe someone had snagged my account somehow, so I changed my password a couple of times... no luck, still get people saying I'm online quite a while after I'm off.)

What happened to their "physical" aspects matching system? It kind of stunk because nobody was ever better than about a 55% match, but it was better than nothing.

Same with the personality thingy- that's gone now, too. At least there I would occasionally get "excellent" matches.

Match might be the big leader, but they still have some ways to go in their system.

Can't answer your questionabout "online". LG is the expert on match.com .

Got a question myself though...why can't you see the profile that comes along with an email? I mean if the member emails you shouldn't you automatically have access to the profile? I can understand

AFAIK you show online about 15 minutes after logging out. Sometimes Match gets people "stuck" in their system and either shows you online or offline for an extended period of time. I think it's all part of Match updating their systems periodically.

I can't figure out what purpose the "online now" serves? There is no more instant messenger. They lack a chat feature. The "Active within 24 hours" is good enough to tell if someone is active. The only thing I can figure is perhaps some type of chat is coming since that's now the only thing I can think the "online now" would be useful for. It's also possible they'll revamp and add a different instant messenger client.

Match was fairly dumb in how they implemented many of their features. I thought it was cool you could make videos or hear voice messages - but then they went and assessed additional fees for some of that (on a service where 80 pct of the people are freeloaders!).

Their profile questions are pretty lame -- they have a huge amount they could do in that area. About all the questions are good for now is basic red flag checking.

I totally agree about match's lame profile questions. By now, they should've gotten a lot more creative with that. The main reason I had high hopes (soon dashed) for matchmaker, is their questions were a lot more interesting.
And you're right re "online now". With no more IM, what is the point of knowing that?

I want to believe that Match is soon going to release a chat or im client. But I truly think that would be giving the services too much credit. IMHO OLD has seen the market top and you're going to see a bunch of consolidation fast.

In my area the only OLD site that seem to do any new member business is Match. AS, Matchmaker, YAHOO all seem dormant. The only other that appears to attract new profiles is Jdate and that's great mostly if your Jewish.

Wow, I haven't been on match.com since November, so I haven't witnessed all these changes.

Match is about the same as always. It's the people that are the problem.

JDate is the one OLD site I've heard really good things about. Unfortunately, I'm not Jewish; otherwise, I'd definitely join.
I feel consolidation of OLD sites is inevitable, based on articles posted here (the BW link posted by Eric, and the recent NYTimes one) and on the general feeling I'm getting from people here and elsewhere. I really wish I had done this 4 or 5 years ago, when from what I hear, it was a lot more fun. I don't know if folks were any more serious about it then, though.

I'm on jdate and I'm seeing the same faces I first saw two years ago. I'm fairly certain that Americans have better success on jdate than I do here in Canada. Even though I'm in a large city, relatively speaking, the numbers of users here are fairly small. For those who are curious though, American Singles is owned by the same company and they have the identical format {except on jdate listing your weight is optional; not so on AS}

Hey...I'm a jdate user too. I've been on and off the site since '98 (yikes!!!) and I still see some of the same people from back then!
