No emotion here; and no complaints. There was no chemistry, and I e-mailed her the thank-you this morning. I received a nice response back so I'm on my break. I'm going to have to put down my 15-year old cat (Marty) tomorrow so I'm numb.

I'm sorry to hear that. -- About your cat, and that your date wasn't that great.

TT,

I am so sorry to hear about your cat. Having had animals all my life, I've been where you are more times than I care to think about. No matter how many times you have to do it, saying good-bye to a beloved pet/friend doesn't get any easier. If it makes you feel any better, I truly believe that animals have souls and that you and Marty will meet again someday.

Okay ... so apparently I've been reading waaaaay to much Dr. Seuss! Sorry - it wasn't intentional.

THIS is why I need to get out more.

Ohhh, TT!!! I am so sorry to hear about what you have to do tomorrow. I know there is nothing we can say to help, really. I am sure that your cat has had a wonderful life with you. You know, there is a Pet Berevement board here at ivillage. Maybe you should go take a peek over there? I am sure the folks there will have comforting words for you and you can feel supported (although, of course, we are here for you to do that, too).

Maggie and I will take a minute tomorrow to sit still and offer you both a prayer and strength to get through everything. I agree that you two will meet up again where all people and animals are healthy and happy...whereever it is that we go.

Big hug, TT.

I just read an article in the new Oprah about a gal who had to put down her cat. The vet actually came to her house. They went up on the roof where Cat liked to walk (in NYC) and his favorite place. She got to hold him as he passed. Of course, I was bawling reading this but I had never heard of a vet making a house call like that and thought it was very nice.

I'm so very sorry, TT. I will be thinking of you tomorrow......

My sister's vet (in CT) makes house calls and did the same thing for them just before Christmas. He came to the house and let everyone be there, they could hold the cat and each say goodbye, he even waited a really long time as they really got ready to finally put Misty down. It was a wonderful way to say goodbye.

I am so sorry to hear about your cat. I had to do the same with my 10 year old cat this past summer. One piece of advice - stay with him. As hard as it is, you'll regret it if you don't. If you've gotten to this point, you know you're doing the right thing for him. Also, the pet bereavement board here on ivillage is very helpful - everyone has been through it and there are some amazing people there. I'm sending you strength vibes.

Oh TT, I am so sorry. Having recently lost my own sweet kitty, I know what you are going through. It is a difficult time - no one knows just how much we love our pets and how much they mean to us. Just have the peace of mind that you get to be with Marty when he passes. He'll know you are there and he'll love you for it. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Just wanted to thank all of you for your comments. I'm going to be taking Marty to the vet in the next hour. It's not easy to deal with the fact he's only got an hour left but he's so weak he can't even move. I don't want him to suffer anymore. But on the upside, he's had a great and long life for a cat so I'm going to wish him well. The next day or so will be tough but I'll be fine.

PS: Someone winked at me this morning even though I'm no longer a member on match. :-)
I think I'll hold off on that until my grieving is complete.

TT -- my thoughts are with you too. Marty is lucky to have lived a life with an owner (though he really owned you, as you know) who loves him.
