I'd like to create a summary of sorts that gives a basic review of the most commonly used online dating sites and post it on our website.
If you all don't mind...could you list the dating site that you use and just provide a point form list of pros and cons of the site.
I think this could end up being very

Pianoguy is still on match.com......but doesn't check it as frequently as he used to.
PG, why don't (or didn't you) simply change your search/match criteria on Yahoo? It's a simple process to limit your search to women between certain ages, for example.

Actually Sherri!
That's a very good suggestion....but even though I put a specific age criteria down originally....then readjusted it slightly....but I kept getting matched up with women who were considerably older....or had a few qualities (smoking for one) that I didn't care for.

Actually, JH....
I did this several times.....but it was requirement on MATCH to take out a membership prior to any contact.
PG:
When you set up your search critieria on Yahoo, you can select your must haves.
For example one of my must haves is that the person not smoke...I've never been matched with someone that does.
Here is my experience:
Yahoo---I've had great luck quite a few dates.
Match---I'm not sure what it is, but it seems I'm invisible. I tried paying too and I still hardly any winks, emails, etc.
Eharmony---Paid for that once and everyone just closed me out. Dated 1 guy and he decided our politics were too different.
Lavalife--No luck at all. I think this site is for people who want very casual encounters.
Matchmaker---I tried that a long time ago and it was not different than Yahoo or Match.
American Singles--was also a total bust for me...I guess I'm not attractive enough for those quys...
In the past 2 1/2 years, these are my experiences: (I should offer a caveat though. I'm Jewish, looking for something long term with another jewish man. So my experiences are probably different than most).
jdate: most successful out of all of them. but lately, the guys have fallen into 2 categories= 1) profiles i'm not at all interested in and 2) profiles i like, but guys are not interested in me.
jwoo: site's about a year old. initial lots of members, very few now.
jewishmingle: ok site. mostly members 40+ and not in my area.
match: tons of guys. most of the same as jdate. have gotten quite a few winks from guys i'm POSITIVE have never even read my profile- just looked at the picture and clicked wink.
yahoo: don't have a strong opinion either way. again, most of the same men as jdate.
lavalife: didn't like it at all. most guys just looking for sex.
eharmony: i thought their analysis of my personality was close, but the matches were soooooo off.
perfectmatch: didn't like it. i think when i joined last year, there were only 4 (yes FOUR) men in my area. but pepper schwartz, is one of my old college professors, so i thought i'd check out her site.
i'm sure there's more, but i can't think of them right now.
I'm currently on jdate, match, yahoo, and jewishmingle. For the first time, I'm having no success at all. Very frustrating. I'm thinner, prettier, happier than when I've been a member in the past- but I'm shocked at the lack of interest in my profile this time around. Hmmmmm.....
True.com
Pro: They do a background check of all its members to make sure they have no criminal history and make sure they're not married
Cons: There were very few ads with photos from men in my area, and they were all men who I'd already seen on match and yahoo.
