Why Is OLD looked upon negatively?

Hi,

It is not my imagination, and when I tell friends and co-workers that I have an OLD date, they wrinkle up their noses like I have just said "we have a calf as a pet and he is Alllmost housebroken...really!". I know this can be pretty hinky as far as dating methods go, but like everything, there are pros and cons.

Still, I do prefer this to metting men at bars, and I have been truly open to meeting men in 'real time',but never do, except for pilots, and we all know they are "Air Dogs"--no thanks!

Would like to hear the comments/feedback you all get from those you know concerning OLD..it is like something you should 'hide' when you say you have a date, and I do not want to do that!

Truly,
Cupcake

That hasn't been my experience...I can't remember anyone saying anything that wasn't positive or at least neutral when I told them (and I am not shy about telling people about it).

So? Change the people you hang out with. I'm not really kidding about that either. It's amazing how much our peer group tends to set our "limitations" for us.

The people in my life have never wrinkled their nose at anything I decided to do in my life. If they did, they wouldn't be around me very long. No, they get a kick out of my OLD experiences, and those I pass along from this board. Like all good friends/family, they wish me success in any endeavour.

I think it just depends on who you're talking to.

Most of my friends have been supportive of my OLD. In fact, it was my married best friend who first suggested I give it a try. I do have one friend who has her reservations about my meeting guys from online, but I think that has more to do with her attitude towards men at the moment than it does OLD.

Most of the people I know seem more curious than anything about OLD. My mother is negative about it, but then again, she's negative about everything.

All of my friends and family have been very supportive, except my mother. She was positive that only axe murderers and rapists used OLD, until I pointed out that I used it and I wasn't one. She hates it when I'm right. LOL

I've never received a negative reaction and actually have several acquaintances who are in successful relationships through OLD. The reality is it's often more convenient (after all, you can browse profiles 24/7) and in some cases safer - IMHO beats a bar where you could meet heavens-knows-what kind of people, at least through OLD you can generally get a sense of what a person is like before you meet them.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all of the feedback, all opinions appreciated! I do think it is that so many of them are uninformed on OLD, being married, etc. Also, thinking of it...there might be a bit of a jealousy factor there; they sit home and watch DVD's and I have, meanwhile, had two dates in one weekend--good or bad, I was asked out! Whatever it is, it is not something that worries me, just pondering the question, and appreciate what was said here in response!

Piano Guy, well...give the devil his Due! "Cupcake" comes from the fact that I surely take care of business and get things done, but I Love to be treated like a lady,be "girly" and dress so, I am a wicked flirt, and ,like cupcakes themselves, stand alone as a great little treat! Men in Texas seem to Love the concept!

Thanks again!

Truly,
Cupcake
