Who should make the first phone call (with or without callerID or number block)?

  • Girl asks for guy's number and calls him first (with her number blocked)
  • Girl gets guys number and calls him first (regardless of number being blocked)
  • Girl gives guy her number for him to call her first (if girl has callerID)
  • Girl gives guy number for him to call her first (regardless of callerID)

I'm not sure I understand the question...what I do is give out my cell phone number (which can't be easily traced using the generally available reverse lookup websites), and ask him to call. I'm not sure what me having caller ID has to do with anything...

hmmm, good point. perhaps then you'd select the one that says "regardless of callerID"? Having caller ID does mean something to some people, sort of similar to how some people have their numbers blocked and others don't... I guess it's more important with home numbers when the person's last name shows up, than with cell phones, where something to the effect of "cell phone number" shows up in lieu of the person's last name.

Ok, but if they are calling me first, what does that matter?

Right, I guess then that you would select "girl gives guy number, regardless of callerID" since you are giving them your number first, and you don't care if their last name shows up on your caller ID. Some people would care to see who is calling them. Some people screen their calls.

Just for info:

For anywhere from 30 to 65 bucks, people can get your name/address information with just your cellphone number. There's tons of detectives that offer it, some of them online.

So yeah, you're not generally traceable through public or free info, but it's out there.

NGOL, I'm glad you posted this as I also had a follow up question for you!!! Okay, so I've never actually asked a guy for his phone number, nor ever done the calling, both before OLD and since OLD (the latter of which is only a few weeks now....) so I'm a little nervous about it but I'M GONNA DO IT! But, here's the thing. IF I do get his number then, and I do call, it may backfire because he *may* have something where he blocks callers who block their number! So then, I'm stuck. Then what do I do? So thus is it not better to give *my* unlisted number? Is there a bennie to asking for his number? Like, does that sort of put the ball more in my court or something? Does it give me an advantage?

Please LMK what you think, and btw, thanks so much for the other advice re: thinking more about myself and not so much of what others think.....that's *always* been a problem for me, and I find it extremely interesting that you were able to nail it. Anyhoo, thanks BUNCHES :)

Oh yeah, another question. For the same 50 bucks, can someone get that information from an unlisted home telephone number?

TIA!

Yep, I'm aware of that, that's why I qualified it like I did. Nothing is truly private any more, that's for sure!

For $30 you can buy a prepaid cell phone at Walmart. Completely untraceable.

For making outbound calls purchase a dirt cheap calling card at Sams or Costco - and use it even if the number is local. I am pretty sure that changes your number on caller ID to be that of the calling card main number (since you typically dial into some 800# and then dial out).
