Here's how it went ...

Around a week ago I posted here that I was going to have my first OLD face-to-face meeting. Well the day before he called to say he was very sorry but he's sick and had to postpone. I was pretty sure that he was going to vanish. I mean, he didn't sound sick. So you don't always sound sick when you really are, but if he cancels when I'd gone through all that effort to overcome my nerves and keep things in perspective - not to mention deciding about what to do when I first see him - then I want to hear MISERY! Okay, okay, not really. I don't really wish him ill. (at least not seriously ill anyway)

Where was I? He canceled and I chalked it up. Then he called back a few days later and said he was feeling better and he would still like to see me. I figured I could give him another chance. So yesterday we had lunch together and I had a really nice time. It was strange at first - feeling like you know someone but really not knowing someone. It was a bit surreal. Like I'm telling any of you something you don't already know.

I think actually the way it turned out, his putting it off for a while actually helped me. I didn't have any expectations so I ended up relaxing about the whole meeting.

So we'll see what happens. He said he would call and if he does that'd be nice. But I'm not holding my breath. Either way I feel like it was successful. And if nothing else happens from it, I've found a new place that makes really good burgers!

p.s. Just in case you were wondering there was no bra contact (either under or over) and no Anna Nicole Smith moves.

What's with all these sick guys? I never get sick (unless I bring it on myself....lol) and I do know that people do - but doesn't it seem like all the posts lately have a guy saying they're sick?

Anyways, I'm glad ya had a good time. I hope it continues however you want it to.

I had a dinner date call me on Tuesday morning to cancel -- she was sick. She sounded as if she had a cold. I don't call to reschedule - if she cancelled she makes the effort. I generally figure people just get cold feet (and I bet I'm write in 90% or more of the cases).

It just plays into the theory that a sizeable number of online people are not there to date. It's mostly a fun email/IM routine or an ego stroke.

There is a lot of "yuck" going around right now...not that I'm exonerating anyone who has cancelled a date because of illness.

It's been a bad winter, up here in the Northeast, at least -- I had to postpone two first meetings recently. One my daughter had pneumonia, and the other, I had a virus thing that left me sleeping on the bathroom floor with a pillow and blanket. So it really does happen. Both times the guys were very understanding, and I appreciated it.

The dinner date who cancelled on me had emailed me two days before that she had a "terrible" experience at a coffee date and after she met me she was retiring. I think she was a newbie. From that moment on I knew she wouldn't show. Knew it, knew it, knew it!
