I posted yesterday and for some reason my post was rejected because I offered an online search for background checks. I have absolutely no affilition with any site, I was just offering a way for anyone who is concerned to do some free background checking. It's just a site that accumulates links to various free public government records.
It's a site with the most links to records such as marriage, divorce, civil cases and criminal cases. What it is, is this: many cities and counties have public records online. Some states have more than others, depending on their funding I guess. Most people can get these records if they go to their local court house (or similar). Now, many cities/counties/states offer this information online. Some government sites have you pay a minimal fee for records (e.g., bankruptcy records). This is only to cover their expenses for the cost of documenting. The price is next to nothing.
I've seen DUI, civil, marriage, and bankruptcy records online. Again, the records vary by city/county/state. You can go to a search engine and query for the municipal court of your city and check out their site. Usually they will show traffic violations, from speeding to DUI's. They just might have online records...free of charge.
You can also query your county and they might have probate/civil/criminal records on their site also.
What I was trying to post yesterday was the site that accumulated the most comprehensive links, that's it. If anyone wants this site, I have submitted a link to the cl of this board.
I've avoided some losers because I checked records and found out that one had a restraining order put on by his ex-wife, another was divorced twice and denied ever being married and another had filed for bankruptcy and claimed to be financially successfull.
So, food for thought. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I hate to sound so jaded, but having dealt with online dates who have been less than honest I find it important to let people know their options.
Good luck in your searches!

Hi Sam,
Thank you for all the information you shared in your post. It was just what I was looking for.
Please e-mail to me the link for the site that contains the most comprehensive links that you mentioned in your post. Whatever additional information you have on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
