Children: "They are far away" WTF?

What the F does that mean? That the guy is a dead beat dad? That he was in the military and fathered a child overseas? I just find it a very odd choice/thing to say for a guy who is "too young" to have children who are not grown.
Here is why I ask. I do not want to have anything to do with men with kids of any sort. Men with grown kids do not exist in my sphere because I really prefer a man under 40. This guy claims he is 34 but he looks quite a bit older than I do. So it could mean grown kids and he is lying about his age.
He and I have what I can only describe as an accidental e-relationship going on with a guy on American Singles. I clicked on the wrong button when he IMd me through the site's IM program - which I am obviously not familiar with LOL! I felt that replying was the polite thing to do since the window opened up. I replied we had nothing in common - his essay was all about being a Christian Republican. I am a lapsed Catholic Democrat. LOL! So now I am debating this guy via email. Current topic - cloning and Darwinism. LOL! He is nowhere near as Christian as he thinks he is.
If he asks to meet me, I will likely not turn him down because of the kids far away thing. I will ask what that means of course but I was raised by a single mom - who was not a single mom by choice - and have issues with men with children "far away." I have no interest in dealing with anyone else's kids either, let alone an ex-wife (whose side I would probably take due to my background). I'll leave all that to the divorced people.

I know of one father whose kid is "far away". When he was about 17 or 18
With today's mobile society, it's not at all unheard of for the custodial parent to move for a job, or to where they have family and/or a support system.
"Far away" could mean a couple of hours away, on the other side of the country, or an entirely different country.
"Current topic - cloning and Darwinism. LOL! He is nowhere near as Christian as he thinks he is."
sorry, that statement confused me. He may, indeed, be less Christian than he thinks he is, I haven't met him. But, evolution and Christianity are NOT mutually exclusive... I am Christian, and believe in evolution. In fact, I'm pretty darn liberal in many ways. And, I'm delighted to report, so are many others I've met.
There's MANY kinds of Christians! It's finding a kind to match you (if you're Christian, and that's important to you) that can be troublesome.
"I have no interest in dealing with anyone else's kids either, let alone an ex-wife (whose side I would probably take due to my background)." Ok, that just killed me! It makes me think of one of my favorite quotes:
"No matter how great a man seems, somewhere there's a woman who's sick of his sh**."
