Who was it here on the board who had a flaky late night caller who used the word "Caio" alot????
I'm emailing a new guy who I don't think is Italian (not that it matters) but ends his emails with "Caio". I live on the eastern shore of MD so it's not common to here that.
Is this the new hip/cool thing to say these days!!?

HI Donna,
I think Ciao is only verge okay. Imagine if THEY said "Arrivaderci, Y'all!" :) I speak Italian in my job and rarely do I use Ciao as a hello or goodbye. It is surely not rude, but if you do not speak the language from your native country, then I always feel people are trying to give themselves a 'cultural upgrade'! Here in Texas, we get our culture from Yogurt, and say things like "Later Days", which I find Much more natural!
I am of the mind that a lot of folks on OLD are trying to make themselves seem Better than they are, or more Uptown. In reality, most of them are pretty okay people, if they would just relax and Be themselves. That is called genuine, and it is what Tall Man has told me he really likes about me, and I like about him.
Coins the phrase: "For Real?", huh? That is also what I Love about the poeople on this board, they ARE 'for real'!
truly,
Cupcake
That would be me with the late-night caller with the tendency to throw in foreign phrases including ending emails with Ciao. I will also never forget when instead of saying, "Hey, you wanna meet up for coffee or something?" he said "Hopefully we can rendevous over a cafe au lait." HUH? This is Texas dude!
I personally hate when a man ends his emails with Ciao (not a big fan of women doing it b/c I find it a bit pretentious, but it is a little more OK). I am not a big fan of metrosexuals and personally I think that the Ciao thing is a a metrosexual sign too. I don't think it is necessarily the new/hip thing to say other than by people that think they are being all cool and him and they are really not.
