Thanks for asking Donna. You have a good memory. :-)
The woman who I signed up just to contact is now officially a ghost. I emailed her right after I joined and I got a reply within a couple of days. She just basically told me what was going on in her life, and that she "looked forward to hearing from me again" (has that not become the kiss of death?), and gave me her hotmail address. I emailed her back from my regular address about two weeks ago and I haven't heard anything since.
You may also remember that a girl emailed and said she recognized me from a restaurant in town. I began IM'ing with her and she seems nice, but she has lots of issues and baggage (ex-husband, ex-boyfriend, a teenage son) and she said she wants to be friends first because she is scared of getting into a relationship and getting hurt.
Anyway, I have come a long way from my early OLD experiences so this time I didn't get my hopes up too much. Guess I will cancel YP before I get billed for another month... lol.

New rule. No signing up for replying/contacting one person unless you are simultaneously contacting 5 others either via email or wink. "The one" that you sign up for nearly always ghosts.

To me the KOD has always been any variation of "more later" -- unless the later means in 10 years. I've never waited that long to find out. I figure after three weeks that later is never going to come...

See my Ironic2 post that talks about this type of thing. I betcha her "ex" is a lot less ex that she'd lead you to believe.

Eric, why would you quit after getting all this experience? Now that you know what to look for and how to go about everything - it seems you can double or triple your effectiveness.
I'm sorry to hear things didn't work out well with that one girl, Eric. LG is right, though; now that you have all this hard-earned experience you should put it to use. Surely, you can find a few other women that are interesting enough to contact? Good luck either way :)
I'm really starting to dislike the "friends first" logic. What's wrong with dating these days. Why are these people even on a DATING site!!? Everyone seems so afraid of getting hurt. I think it's those people that go into this with "relationshiping" in mind and not "dating". Heck, I don't want to get hurt either but I don't need a herd of male friends. I just want someone to maybe go to happy hour with, go to a movie, get a bite to eat... Anyway...I'm sorry the first one ghosted and the second has "baggage to fill a cruise ship" (as AMJAY once said!!). Their loss!! Don't give up :-)
It is Their loss, to have passed up on a great guy, and I give ya 10 to 1 on a trifecta that Both will turn up later in the spring/summer to you!
I feel you get one 'carry-on' in the 'baggage' department, and it Must fit in the overhead bin of Life! Like Donna, I was really tired of people who are On OLD,but put down the 'i am scared of committing' speedbump. So not fair! No guts/no glory! WHO(m?) of us here has not been hurt, and many of us burned very badly, but you still believe that good things can happen!
And they can....there sits a large vase on my kitchen table of 24 tropicana roses, and 1 red one (for deep affection) that Tall Man sent me for my birthday last week, that is proof of just That! It was the beginning of the Best birthday celebration of my life. This would Not have been possible, to find someone so great, if I had 'quit'. All that one learns on OLD are like puzzle pieces that make no sense as they fall, one by one, but when the time comes, and the puzzle comes together--it is awesome. That is what I wish for everyone here!
'Tinkerbelle' this--Believe!
Ding! Next! There is a good woman who deserves a Good man like You, Eric!

No, Donna, that was DEFINITELY a cupcake-ism! Too funny, though.
