I'm wondering what a hug at the end of a first meet means. Yesterday, I had dinner with a guy that I met online. He seemed kinda nervous the whole time. Our conversation went pretty good and I told him that it was nice to meet him and he said the same to me. At the end when we left, outside the restaurant, he gave me a hug and said something about chatting online again. I don't know what the hug was about. Whether it was just him being nice or whatever, I don't know. He's working backshift the next few days, so he's not online. I just wish I knew what a hug meant.

I don't think it really "means" anything, in and of itself. I've gotten hugs at the end of a first meet from men who called for a 2nd date, and also from men who never called again.

However, him saying something about "chatting online again" is pretty noncommittal...I've found that *as a general rule*, men who were really interested made it clear that they wanted to see me again at the end of the 1st meet. But I've also heard from guys who were said noncommittal things like that, so who knows!

My best advice is to assume that you *won't* hear from him, and just go on with your life. If he contacts you, great; if not, oh well, next!

I agree with Sheri. The hug really means nothing; don't read anything into that. But the vague "chatting online" thing would make me think he's not interested. I could be wrong but I wouldn't hold out too much hope for this one.

I didn't really feel anything for him anyway so I'm not interested in pursuing any kind of relationship with him anyway. I was just curious as to what a hug could mean since the last 3 guys that I had a meet with, didn't do that.

I think it's just an extension of "Nice to have met you." I always got a hug, or a kiss on the cheek after a first meeting, except for the one's I

He did email me yesterday. It was short, like all of his emails are. He told me he doesn't really like emailing so that's probably why they're so short and to the point. He asked me "what's up" and told me that he's working backshift so doesn't get much time on the computer since he's sleeping most of the day or whatever. He asked me about a birthday present I was getting someone that I mentioned when we met, and that he had to go out to get some things done and he would talk to me later. I wish I knew if he wants us to be friends only, which is fine with me, or whatever he's thinking. Maybe he'll email or chat with me again and let me know what's what.
