How many years have you been doing OLD: I first started probably 6 years ago, but obviously I only do it between relationships... so I'm not currently doing any OLD.

Lesson learned in February 2007: You must decide if you can love and accept someone exactly as they are, not how you wish they were. Never get involved with someone because of their "potential."

Hey Rebecca, *I'm* 53... but not the rest of my body ;-)...

Name: Kyra (actually not my real name, but I never use my real name on forums)

Location: PA

Age (if you want): 36

How many years have you been doing OLD: 1.5 months

Lesson learned in February 2007: Don't try OLD unless you are truly ready to date/over your ex. I never made it to the meeting-in-person stage because I choked when things were ready to progress. I need more ME time.

Name: Mark

Location: Portland, Oregon

Age (if you want): 53

How many years have you been doing OLD: 7 years, since my divorce

Lesson learned in February 2007: I was reminded not to be attached to an outcome to relationships or any other aspect of my life. I have connected with a couple of women since the beginning of this year and one decided not to continue to create a friendship with me and the other is keeping in touch. It's all good. I also re-learned that I am a man who has qualities that are valued by women such as listening, being present, and caring.

How many years have you been doing OLD: without interruption of an exclusive relationship, about two years.

Lesson learned in February 2007: There are no guarantees... so have as much fun as possible :)

Glad to meet you all-I'm the New Kid on the Block, in a philosophical rather than actual age sense. I've learned a lot from some of you who are 1/3 my real age..you'r pretty smart and have some valuable insight.

Name-eellee --sort of an alliteration of my real name
Location-strangely enough, I'm a neighbor of Marks! in Beaverton OR, a suburb of PDX
Age-64
I've learned that I can learn. I've grown, in an emotional sense, a great deal in the past 24 months. In just a couple of weeks the 2 year anniversary of my dear wonderful husbands transitioning to rock n' roll heaven will occur. I've spent these 2 years experiencing incredible grief, loss and sadness tempered by the joy of coming to know my newest grand daughter who was born just 4 days before her grandpas passing.
And, amazingly enough, the fact that my marriage was such a close and enduring one has contributed to my ability to put myself out there and allow myself to be open to the possibility of not spending these "Golden Years"alone.
Dating of any kind is new to me again and honeys let Nana eellee tell you, What seems to change just stays the same.
The OLD venue may seem to be totally different than I've ever done before, but really it's not that different! I almost married a man I met in the Personals add of The Mother Earth News-a big 'back to the earth' magazine that is still put out for people who are trying to live off the grid etc. TMEN was the big meet spot for hippies who were starting families, had bought land in some backwater town and had decided to grow their hair long and not join the corporate world.
Being a pen pal is JUST like meeting OLD guys, except OLD is much faster.
Ya gotta laugh!

Yes I'm Eellee's neighbor in a suburb of Portland, Oregon but she does not seem to be interested in actually meeting me. I think I'm not young enough for her ... ?-)...

How many years have you been doing OLD: I did OLD on and off for about 2 1/2 years but have been dating someone I met a little over two months ago IRL ("in real life").
