How much time is normal?

Hi,
I'm getting back into the game, and basically can't remember the rules. A really great guy gave me his phone number on Saturday night, and told me to call him sometimes, we would get together for dinner, as friends. Both of us were really burned in our most recent relationships, and we both want to go slow, so starting as friends is just fine. So, how much time is "ok" before calling? I mean, whats the rule about having to wait long enough so that he doesn't think I'm too excited, but not waiting so long that he thinks I'm not willing to go to dinner at all? Anyone know what I mean?
Thanks :)

Well, according to the movie "Swingers", the rule is to wait 3 days before calling. I personally think the rule is a bunch of hooey, but that's supposedly what the rule is ;-).

I would think it would be fair to expect this week to get kicked off to where you're in the planning for next weekend mode to call him... but I'd think that today or tomorrow would be better than waiting until TH or FR to make weekend plans.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the responses. I'll call him tomorrow night, and leave a message if I get voice mail. To isysmoon - I truthfully was kicking myself afterwards for not giving him my number instead of taking his, since I have a hard time starting a conversation at times. LOL - my mistake.
I'll log in tomorrow night to let everyone know how the phone call went. Thanks for the good wishes:)

Just wanted to update everyone - It went GREAT!!!!!!!
We have been talking on the phone for the past three hours (until his phone started dying) and we've got a date for Saturday night. I can't wait. Now onto the bigger problem - what to wear!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and to soothe any feelings of "you just met this guy and you're going out with him already, are you crazy???" - he's actually a really good friend of the family, and I feel totally comforatable going out like this. My father is a really good friend of his, so I have confidence that I won't get like, burned, on the first date.
Anyways, of course I'm jumping for joy right now, but everything is great.
Talk to you all later - Accounting homework is calling me. :)
