What subjects do you avoid talking about on a first date or when first meeting someone in general?

For me, the taboo subjects are past relationships, family problems and employment problems. I like to keep things upbeat and interesting. I don't want to bore people nor do I want to be bored by my date.

For me, politics and family problems,......IMO, those should not be discussed on a first date.

Sex. Unless I want to encourage the guy to proposition me before the date is out (and I never do), I try to steer the conversation away from sex. I don't mean no flirting, but no talking about preferences, what turns us on, etc. I try to avoid giving guys an opening for that kind of conversation, but sometimes I just have to say, "Hey, it's too early to be talking about such stuff. You're going to make me blush," or something like that.

Another thing is money. I've had guys ask me how much money I make, or how much I pay for mortgage and stuff like that. Sorry, no. That's no one's business except my own. I've learned that just to say "Oh, but that is expensive," about some luxury (a car, a trip, whatever) may encourage a guy to start talking about incomes, so I try to avoid such comments.
