Are they worth it? I'm thinking of trying out a range of events but don't know if I'll just end up finding myself in a room with mostly women and therefore wasting my money. I'm thinking of speed dating, cocktail cruises, hiking for singles, anything. Anyone actually have success-- meaning a few dates out of-- with these sorts of things?

Their is a company near the Bay area called "The Singles Travel Company", I believe it's in Palo Alto, do a search on Google as "singles travel company". They offer a wide range of trips for singles and now are including couples. I have been on an 8-night cruise and my girlfriend has been on several trips with this company. Well worth checking into it. This company allows single people to get out and travel without having to pay double-occupany rate and for those who don't want to travel alone (male and female); it's not a match-making company and that is noted on the website. You need to approach singles events as a way to get out to meet people to socialize with, men and women, and as you get out more you will meet new people to hang out with and then eventually meet the one. I feel awkward and have a hard time when I tell myself I am looking for someone to date when I go places because it's does not allow me to be myself. When I go places, my attitude is to meet people to socialize which includes men and women. When we least expect it is when we will meet someone. I wish you well and keep us posted on your singles events.
