When you're dating someone, what time frame are you comfortable with as far as meeting the parents or family of the person your seeing?

What about their friends?

It's difficult to say an exact time frame, but I always wanted to be fairly comfortable with my BF and our relationship before bringing family into the picture, except for maybe siblings that they were very close to. Friends were along the same line as siblings, and I was comfortable meeting them after a few dates.

Hum, I’d be comfortable meeting the BF’s parents after a few months of dating.

His friends I would want to meet soon because they are a part of his life. If we (his friends and I) get along well, it's a good sign. If we don't, or worse, if we don't like each other, then it's doesn't bode that well for the relationship.

As for the parents, I think it depends on the relationship and the comfort level. I've met a guy's mom straight away, before we even started dating. She lived in England, was in town for a visit, and he tracked down my phone number to invite me to a barbecue he was having in her honor - and he told her to keep me company because he wasn't sure I knew a lot of people there, and that he had a crush on me. I was also the surprise for another mom who had come to visit her son and who hadn't expected him to have a GF he was serious about after only a few weeks here (he only gave her 10 minutes warning, poor woman). She ended up inviting me to join her and her children on the family vacation, and we've remained very good friends ever since. Otherwise, I'd prefer waiting until I knew where the relationship was going.

I'm pretty nervous in general about meeting parents so I don't ever meet them until I'm sure that my relationship is going to be a long term one. Even at 46....I'm a big chicken! ;0)

Friends are different for me. I can meet them after a few dates and things are usually cool.
