How far would you go (distance-wise)?

How far would you go to meet someone or how far is too far when considering a relationship? I have heard of people who do 2000 miles, some who can't go more than 2 miles...But I also know of people who do an hour away and seem ok. While it would be ideal for your SO to live close by, it is possible to have a relationship that involves a little extra driving.
Granted, I imagine if you're in California, an hour seems like nothing, but here in the northeast, it can make people panic!

About an hour is my limit--any further and it's just too much of a hassle.
How did that work with you in Seattle and him in New Orleans? Do you really consider yourself "dating" or is it more like a 'special friend' who lives far away?
As I said, I know people do it, some successfully, but how do you maintain any kind of intimacy at such a long distance?
I think it depends on how you two meet. If you meet while already living far away from each other, then you're already used to it and a long distance may not seem so bad.
I live in California and an hour here means an hour in driving time...not in distance. So it wouldn't seem so bad. But an hour in Washington State (where I used to live) would seem far.
You know, it also depends on how good the SO is at keeping in touch while you're apart. One who calls daily and texts or emails often wouldn't need to be around so much.
