Why are younger guys so "clingy?"

I've been going out with one of my guy friends for the last few weeks, and it still feels wierd! The thing is that he's 19 and I'm 22. It's a bit of a difference, but it matters a lot to me. At least for now. How can I make this work for us? Also, he's a bit "clingy," why? I've NEVER had this kind of attention, and it feels wierd, even though I've wanted it for sooooo long, from someone else! What do I do???

forbidden_5...

Pianoguy read your post a couple times and came up with the following possibilities:

1. Perhaps the age factor is a little intimidating for your b/f? After all, you're '3 years his senior!'

2. He might be looking for more emotional protection---akin to what a mother might provide to her child?

3. If you're uncomfortable with too much attention...ask him nicely...to "back off!"

It probably feels "clingy" 'cause it's someone else you want the attention from -

what do you mean by clingy in his case - he's wanting to hang out all the time? In which case if he asks about getting together at certain times you can say, sorry, sounds like fun but i already have plans for that nite

I guess he's not too clingy, mostly only when we're together. I think that you're right about me just wanting this attention from someone else. Maybe he's just being attentive, I'm just not used to it, but my sister and friends keep telling me that it's a good thing. Is it? Do you think that this has anything to do with the age difference, or that we were friends for about 2 years before this happened?

I kind of vote with suggestion 3 but yes, do it very nicely... and you might find you miss the attention . Once we don't have something we took for granted we sometimes find , gee, I did kind of like having that after all
