Refused a date. Big mistake?

I recently got asked out by a cute guy at work and I told him I would see if I could get work off. I was really planning on going out with him, until my friend who has heard more about him than me overheard my plans. She immediatly warned me he is just a jerky playboy who wants to use me for one night. I was crushed but still wanting to go so badly, it feels like ages since I've been asked out. So the next day I just told him I couldn't get work off, and the interactions between us since that time have been strange. I first avoided him at all costs for the next few days, then I tried talking to him the following week. He kind of snapped at me, because I suddenly started talking to him but I changed the subject to the event he wanted to take me to and he said he just took his neice and that I somehow hexed him because he was also refused by five other women after me. So we still smile and wave at each other everyday at work. But I can't still help but feel I still really screwed up. What should I do?

How reliable your friend's comment on the "jerky playboy" stuff? If your friend's comment is 100% reliable, no need to regret, just move on & find another chap! All the best!

For the future, while friends may have mean well, you really need to determine what kind of person a man is by interacting with him yourself. If he knew 5 other women to ask out besides you, he may very well be a player. The fact that he was snippy with you is an indicator that he may not be so charming underneath his cuteness. Dont worry about screwing up this one...he doesn't sound so great.

Uh you 'hexed' him? And broken up as he was by your refusal he still managed to immediately ask out 5 other women? This does not off the cuff sound like amazing boyfriend material... I wouldn't grieve but I would get out there and try to meet some nice guys

LOL OMG, what a jerk! He really said that you hexed him?? I hope he was kidding. If he wasn't, then you made the right decision by not going out with him because he is obviously a bitter arschloch...

So since this time, I've gone out with a few nice guys that I'm pretty good friends with. For some reason, I only feel hormonally drawn to 'The Idiot' in the beginning. We still look at each other, and know what the other is thinking. And I son't blame him to treat me scornfully, I was a bitch to insult him like I did. I don't know how to end this so I can move on.
