How do I know if he is interested

I feel really odd about this but I need some help. I like someone whom I have barely spoken too because I'm really shy and have been out of the dating scene for a long time. To make a story short there is this guy who works where I shop and one day my mom told him I was cute and he asked is the kid was mine. My mom told him yes and he said he was cute. I went around there and put something back I said excuse me and he said something but I couldn't understand it because I was nervous and I walked away. My mom said he said something like how are you? I gave my mom my number to give him which she did and he put it in his pocket. He never called but every time I go in there he'll smile at me. Once he looked twice at me the other times he smiled. Do you think I should try again or just give up. Either way it's awkward because I shop there all the time. I really don't want him to think I'm a stalker. Thanks for the help!

Make small talk with him and do some subtle flirting.

First of all, get your mother out of the picture.

First of all don't change who you are or where you shop for any guy. You have responbilities and shopping for yourself and family is required. So who cares what he thinks.

Women/girls have a tendency to analyze everything about anything.

It couldn't be any clearer that your interested when he received your phone number.

It couldn't be any clearer that is his not interested when he didn't call.

Now let me say this.

He may not be interested in dating you but he's interested in you as a person. Maybe he's not ready for a serious relationship and he sees you as the kinda girl that he would want a relationship with. This is what I tell all my friends. Even if he is not asking you out now, be nice and polite and friendly. B/c maybe some day when he is ready to call for a date, he will remember how nice you were.

I know there have been times when a guy asked me out and the timing was all wrong. I would politely say no and try to explain why.

You can say hi, how are you and make a comment that things must be crazed with all the last minute shoppers. Just be casual and don't expect anything to come from it - if something does, great.
