Getting back into it

I haven't dated in a long time. I have since gained a great deal of self-respect and I know myself a lot more than I did even two years ago. The problem is that it doesn't seem like people date anymore. There's so much "hooking up" going on. I'm in a new town. I don't have a built in social network. I have to build one now which is also difficult. How do you date without the messing around and sex from date #1 (or #2 or #3)? It's not who I am anymore. My friends who are in relationships met people through school. Some hook-ups evolved into relationships.

I'm also not sure about the prospects online.

Cut away all that is excessive, straighten all that is crooked, bring light to all that is shadowed. Do not cease until there shall shine out on you the Godlike Splendour of Beauty; until you see temperance surely established in the stainless shrine" -Plotinus
