me vs them

After 13 years of bending over backwards, trying to please, I'm done. My husband has 4 sisters and in his latin fam that means nosy. I am white and from day 1, I had to conform, learn spanish, and walk the talk. I moved 2000 miles away from my fam. He doesn't see that I am hurt that they talk about me, and treat our kids different. He just tells me to deal with it and "why do you care what people say". This year I refused to be fake, I said I will find something else to do on xmas, but I won't hang out with his family that make me feel unwelcome. They even talk about me in front of me.... I am at a loss, not so much about them, but my husband of 13 years that doesn't put them in their tracks.. It is causing me to be angry at him and want out????

Hi Jrami, welcome to the board!

Maybe the next time you see your ILs and they start talking about you in front of you, you might want to say something to them. Since your husband won't say anything, it sounds like you are going to have to say something to them. Maybe you could say, "Ahem, I'm over here. If you want to say something about me, I'm over here!" Or you could say, "I'm so glad that you are able to talk about me in front of me and not behind my back." . Or "If you have something to say to me about me why not say it to my face instead of talking about me like I'm not sitting here..."

Hope you have a health and happy Christmas!
