MIL Happy!

This is actually a happy story, so I was hoping it'd be a nice change. lol

My DH has had issues with his Mom for many, many years. She's Bipolar and has other issues which will turn her from the sweetest most intelligent woman in the world to the biggest uberwitch you ever saw. Having come from a Bipolar home myself, it was easy enough to brush off the severe mood swings until my FIL became ill with multiple cancers.

It was pretty evident after awhile that FIL's condition was terminal and as the reality sunk in, MIL became, understandably, more and more frightened. The problem was that as she became more frightened, she started calling our house more frequently to scream at DH for everything from allowing the kids to watch Harry Potter to what a horrible husband and father he was. For a couple of months we both tried to let it pass keeping in mind that she was very afraid, but DH was also dealing with the impending loss of his father. Her weekly calls would leave him in tears and eventually I started getting angrier. I started intercepting the phone calls letting her yell at me instead. Eventually, FIL did pass away and while the calls didn't stop, they grew fewer as we all pulled together to try and make sure that MIL was going to be allright.

That was a year ago. Last night we got a call from MIL as she arrived in FT. Lauderdale with her Red Hat Ladies group. They are leaving on a cruise to Jamaica today and she sounded soooo excited. She's really blossomed in such a short time and I was thrilled to hear her so happy. While we deeply miss FIL, MIL has really found her footing and we're very proud of her.

So that was a happy inlaw story. lol

Hooray! It *is* good to hear a happy "ending". Or happy starting/continuing on.
