Here's a little fable shared by my counselor -- perhaps you've heard it? (I originally posted this back in September 2002 and thought it might be a good time to repost it)
Once upon a time, there was a Frog and a Scorpion who met at the side of the river. The Scorpion said to the Frog, "Please Frog, take me across the river for I cannot swim." The Frog replied, "What? Do you think I am crazy? I will not take you across the river, for you are a Scorpion. You will sting me and I will die." The Scorpion said, "But, I cannot swim. And, if you were to take me upon your back across the river, I would not sting you for I would be so thankful and if I did, surely we both would die." So the Frog thought and thought and then decided that he would swim the Scorpion across the river upon his back. The Scorpion got onto the Frog's back and just as they were about half way across the river, the Scorpion "SNAP SNAP SNAP" stung the Frog three times harshly upon the neck. As the Frog was starting to lose consciousness and die, he asked, "Why? Why did you sting me, for now we will both surely die?" The Scorpion replied, "It is WHO I AM, IT IS MY NATURE, IT IS WHAT I DO."
Hugs and safe weekends to all, K
