I'm a book person, too. Reading books has been a great help in my recovery/healing process.
Here's my list...
"Beyond Codependency" (or Codependency No More) by Melody Beatie. After reading this book, I realized that most of my relationship "problems" stemmed from this thing called "codependency". This book helped me take ownership of what was really MY stuff to work on and seperated the BULL that the abuser feeds you.
"The Verbally Abusive Relationship" by Patricia Evans. A MUST READ. This book covers it all.... from what a verbally abusive relationship looks like versus a healthy one; to why he does that; and how to respond to the verbal abuse.
"Boundaries" by Henry Cloud. Reading this book brought soooo much healing to my spirit. This book helped me understand myself and my needs, helped me to define myself and I regained my identity. Where the other books helped me grow strong enough to leave, this book helped me grow strong enough to stay out.
All these books helped me see the many reasons why I should and could pursue life, liberty, and happiness.
And a book list would not be complete without the greatest "How To" manual ever written. THE BIBLE. My personal favorite is "The Life Recovery Bible". This version is written with life applicable footnotes. And the translation is very modern (versus the King James Version).
Good luck to you.
