Hi from my new home!

I have been without internet for days and days and days! So this is the first time I could check in. I am going to check out the other board soon too. My daugther and I have been doing pretty good - we don't have much in terms of furniture (okay this is putting it very mildly!!) but it has been quite sunny! Being out of that environment makes such a difference!! We have to go back for Christmas to see the family, him, etc. I already have the roundtrip ticket and am not going to stay in that house so I think I should be ok. If it is too bad I can always get another ticket and make the trip back sooner than planned. It has been good making decisions - what table to buy, etc. (Nothing in the old house was really my choice). It feels like it has been a long time since I was me....

Congratulations to you and DD! I can't wait to be able to make the decisions myself, I can only imagine how great that is. I hope you and DD have a wonderful holiday. Keep us posted on how you're doing and how the new place is coming along!

Take care,

Carrie

Hi Girlie!

Nice to see you around :o)

You are so positive - I love it! Doesn't it make a difference.. you don't have to walk on no egg shells anymore.. what a relief. Great to hear that you won't be staying at the house with him.. good move. Sounds like your doing good - keep up the good work!

Hello Sam. :)
You don't know me, but I'm happy to read someone enjoying the high of freedom. :)
It's huge, isn't it?

I wanted to give you two ideas. Don't forget that if you want to leave early, just go to the airline. You can standby for free if you're a little flexible on time. I wouldn't share (with anyone) when you're scheduled to come back home so no one can get the bright idea to try to make you miss your flight. Might not happen, but I'm throwing it out there.

A second thing is to ask if you're familiar with Freecycle? (Freecycle.org). It's a very cool online group that tries to keep things out of landfills. There seems to be one for almost every city, state, neighborhood, county, area in the country! It's growing all the time.

For example, I just gave away 2 very large couches. The list rules are that:
1) it must be free,
2) as described,
3) appropriate, and
4) the one who wants it must pick it up.
If you give things away, you can specify you'd like a charity to have it.

So although you're going to be decorating your new place in a lovely fashion, these lists might be great for basics that don't really matter much. I've given away a washer and dryer, over 500 books recently, baskets, a large metal desk, clothes (it's big on baby clothes), 9 computers and boxes of parts, a big plastic dog igloo, large blue exercise mats. 3 Lamps, tons and tons of quilting fabric, and about 50 moving boxes. See what I mean? :) In turn, I've picked up dog crates, was able to borrow a laptop modem, get information I needed, donate cell phones to DV groups, and a few other things.

Anyway, I hope this might help you flesh out your little place. :)

Merry Christmas,
C.
