I'm really glad you posted this.

You guys all know I have had years of female issues stemming from Ovarian polycystic disorder and endometriosis that culminated in a total hysterectomy this past January. I suffered from many of the symptons listed in your posting. Weight loss, bloating etc. The doctor chalked it up to either irritable bowel or just side effects of the endo. Well in one of my surgeries that would have been a year ago this past April, I lost my first ovary. They went in to remove some cysts and endo tissue and found cancer cells growing in my ovary. It was completely black and three times its normal size. They just stumbled upon it at a very early stage, thus I didn't have to endure chemo, thank the gods.

Anyways, I think this is a very important issue for women that doctors don't pay enough attention to. They write it off as the woman is doing something wrong to cause her symptoms. I too have gone through about 3 doctors up until this point and the last one finally said lets just do the hysterectomy. Between the cancerous ovary and all my other issues, it was really the only way to go and it was a hard decison and a hard fought battle. I sincerely hope this will change in the medical community.

Our psychological reality, which lies below the surface, frightens us because it endlessly surprises us and drives us in a direction which society's rules and organizations define as wrong or dangerous

Oh no. I am so sorry. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. I know how hard it is to lose a parent.

I'm sorry she had to go through all that. It's so important for people to know that if their doctor doesn't respond to them appropriately, then they need to find another one. A lot of times doctors don't really listen to woman. They usually think we're exagerating, or don't know what we're talking about.
