I've researched and researched on this topic but I just get more and more confused! When are the best days to have sex if you do NOT want to get pregenant? BEFORE your period, or AFTER your period? Does anyone have a helpful site or an answer for me? That would be great! Thank you :)

Here is the general rule of calculating ovulation, but every women is different and it depends on your cycle, how regular you are monthly, how many days between each period, etc.............Your date of ovulation is calculated by subtracting 14 to 16 days from the date of your next period. This is an approximation and may not be exact for every woman. These calculations may not be accurate if your cycle is less than 21 days long or more than 35 days long, or if your menstrual cycle is irregular from month to month.

If you are using this for your only means of birth control, you should really check with your ob/gyn and get all the facts.

Theoretically, a week before your period - during your period- and a week after, you are safe.

If the other form of BC you are using is a hormonal contraceptive, then the rhythm method won't indicate anything.

The reason you can't find information is because there is NO safe time to have sex unless you're on birth control. It is possible to get pregnant 24/7/365!

However, you say you're on the pill, and you're using condoms also. Well, you should use condoms for prevention of diseases, but actually, they're unnecessary for birth control, because if you take the pill correctly, you don't ovulate, and without ovulation, it's impossible to get pregnant.

Wishing for a 3rd method is really overkill.

Wow, I didn't know that birth control did excatly that. Goes to show you how much research I've done with that. :-/

Well I haven't been on b/c for a month, I just started again tonight. and we had sex a few times this month, I was just wondering when the best time to have sex is to not get preg. I know you can get preg. ANYTIME, but there are times when you have a slighty less chance of it, and a slighty less chance is much better than a good chace :).

Thank you for all of your help everyone!

Theoretically, if a woman has a 28 day cycle, and is VERY regular, ovulation takes place between the beginning of one period, and the beginning of the next period. That means that THEORETICALLY you would ovulate on the 14th day after the beginning of a period. IF you are regular, and IF you are an "average" person....that would be the least safe time. However, none of us is that precise. Using that "method" to prevent pregnancy is called the "rythym method", the only birth control approved by the Catholic church. It's also call Catholic Roulette, and Catholics who rely on that method usually have LARGE families.

Some women have gotten pregnant DURING their period. There is NO safe way to know for sure when you're ovulating. It's a guessing game, and if you don't want to get pregnant, don't rely on it. Are you also aware that during the first month that you take the "pill", you are NOT safe, and you could get pregnant? Are you also aware, that when you weren't taking the pill, even if he "pulled out", you could still get pregnant from the "pre-ejaculate" which contains thousands of sperm per drop? If you don't want to get pregnant, then take the pills, take them correctly, meaning EVERY day at the same time, and you will be okay.

hehe yes I know all of that junk :) We are very very very safe. Like I said before, he wears a condom (most of the time), and on top of that I am on b/c. What is it .. 3 weeks until my pills come into affect, right? I know it's 3 weeks at the least. Well thanks for the info everyone! :) That's all I wanted to know, which time during a cycle is the best time to do it. Even though it's like .. 20% effictive ;) better than 0!

For this first month, his wearing a condom "most of the time" is NOT safe. You're throwing those percentages around like abstract numbers, but just remember, if there's a 1% chance of getting pregnant, that means one out of one hundred times. It doesn't mean the 99th time, it could be the first time! AND, if you're the one out of one hundred, you will be 100% pregnant! Until you've been thru the first cycle, he needs to use a condom 100% of the time.

Yes, wearing a condom "most of the time" is like being "a little pregnant", isn't it?
