Question about first time sex

Hi all --

I had sex for the first time with my boyfriend this weekend. I bled a lot and he wasn't even able to go all the way in. Is this normal?? What's wrong with me? Should I see an OB? Note: I'm 30 and waited (obviously) a long time for my first time and was a bit shocked at the pain. Does it get better?? Thanks!

You were probably not relaxed enough and lubricated enough.

Well, if you bled enough to cause you concern than it's better to be safe than sorry and get checked out. Most likely though, you were just very tense and perhaps not lubricated enough. Perhpas try something like Astroglide next time, as well as plenty of foreplay beforehand. I bled a little my first time, but it wasn't alot.

Congratulations Ella on taking a very big step. I was "older" as well when I lost mine, and I will tell you that I DEFINITELY bled. A LOT. Like a circle of 4-5 cm. I bled so much that it got ALL over him AND me. It hurt a lot more than I expected as well, and at first he wasn't able to get in, but he finally did. You might still have some more "breaking in" to do.

I also want to say that I bled for a few days (about 5 days)...

It should get better. Some people have a lot of pain. A lot of people have no discomfort. Let yourself heal a little... but seeing as how he didn't get all the way in, you still might have some more breaking in to do. It DOES get better.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

Thanks climbinggirl! Like you I did bleed for several days (still in fact a *little* today). You message DEFINATELY made me feel a lot better. I really thought there was something wrong with me. Yes, more "breaking in" will be necessary, but my boyfriend was very sweet and was very cool to not have sex again the rest of the weekend because I was still sore. Thanks again!

NO problem hon! I understand completely. Some will say more lube is needed, but let me tell you, if there's a hymen there, it may very well break! :-) I mean, I knew to expect this (to some extent), when at my first GYN exam the woman told me she couldn't fit 2 fingers in me because my hymen was very intact, and she had to use a small speculum too.

Just as a sidenote (and this may be because my first boyfriend was pretty big too), but sometimes I did have a little bleeding thereafter (just would notice a little after wiping)... but I think again it was just getting used to the sex and all.

I'm glad I was able to help
