Just a reminder that there's a special on NBC tonight at 9pm Central, about teens and sex. Thought those with teens at home might be interested in tuning in.

Yes, I did. It was based on a poll of 1000 teens, aged 13-16, from all over the US and from both rural and city backgrounds.

In addition, Katie interviewed 20 teens aged 13-17 on the special. It seems that the younger teen girls were doing less oral sex (only 1 in 10) than previously thought and the 15-16 yr. olds were "hooking up" (being with someone for one night only) probably more than was feared. She asked them what the girls got out of giving oral and why it was not reciprocated. They said they felt that boys were more comfortable with their bodies.

They also don't date as much as go out in large groups before hooking up with someone at the end of the night. So there's not much emotional intimacy involved in these sexual liasons, it seems to be about the sex only.

It was clear that teens feel more comfortable TALKING about sex than previous generations, but they say it doesn't mean they're necessarily participating.

They were all in agreement that music videos, celebrities, tv, magazines, music and the media in general, with it's sex saturated themes, has affected their attitudes to some degree and desensitized them to sexual images. And they do feel intense pressure to become sexual by a certain age.

Another interesting finding: girls are offering oral sex to boys primarily to avoid intercourse. They didn't necessarily want to do it....or do it to fit in or to be liked, as previously believed.

Overall, pretty interesting special...learned a few new things but not a lot. But is seems that teens STILL believe they know more than their parent's about sex! LOL!

But that's not the WHOLE story either so not a lot of relief, on an earlier segment I think maybe on the Today show

I think everyone is already aware that some boys are pressuring girls, subtly or otherwise, to provide oral though. That's pretty much a given, with human nature what it is.

And yes, we teach people how to treat us, as good old Dr. Phil likes to say, and it's true. Boys who are taught by girls that sex is a right, not an intimate privilage, will likely treat their future wives/GF's accordingly.

And the gist of the experts: parental input is imperative to counteract the negative imprinting of friends, the media, and the negative aspects of our culture....is also info. we already knew.

Unless their parents were in the porn industry, since the talk is all about porn influencing them anyway, LOL!
