Sudden SURGE in sex drive

Hi everyone -- I'm in my 40s and have had a very quiet sex life with my husband of 22 years. I just lost about 12 lbs (only a fraction of what I need to lose) on the Atkins Diet. I am *shocked* by the sudden intensity of my sex drive! DH is not complaining, but I want him home for lunch, etc. This is very distracting! Do you all think I was substituting one appetite for another during the years I lived on carbs and junk? Is this not related to the way of eating? What about entirely new ideas about sex I'm having now? Am kind of amazed and shocked by this (DH very happy) and wonder if anyone has experienced almost unremiiting arousal! Thanks!

It could be a few things, your loosing weight might be making you feel better about yourself and your age might have something to do with it.

well one day at age 41 I woke up horny as hell...that was about 8 months ago and it hasn't stopped yet...needless to say my husband is thrilled!

In my case I attribute the change to going off birth control pills (this miraculous libido shift happened about 6 wks after I quit taking the pills). No weight loss, no other changes that I can identify. I still have kids at home (youngest just turned 4). I don't think I'm near menopause yet but who knows.

Yes, but my periods of "unremitting arousal" seem to be cyclical more than anything. I notice this with my DH as well.

But when you feel better about yourself and feel encouraged by your weight loss or some other good fortune, naturally, your drive will also get a boost.

But don't question it or try to figure it out, just enjoy.

I agree with Kat, don't question it, just enjoy it. It's certainly NOT a bad thing! There are lots of things that might be coming into play.....you might be in peri-menopause, and your hormones are fluctuating wildly all over the place. Once your estrogen levels start dropping, the testosterone levels rise (well, they don't rise, they were always there, but the estrogen "masked" them!. There is also "nurture" over "nature".....you've lost weight, and you just FEEL sexier. Your husband is getting more attention, and that's causing HIM to feel sexier, and you're getting more attention from him. However you look at it, it's a GOOD thing!

So much for women's "peaks" and men's "peaks". In the olden days, it was thought that once we get older, we forget about "that stuff".....NOT true. Given the right encouragement, this can be the best time of your life sexually, and it can go on forever, as long as you're healthy, and you have the right attitude. ENJOY!

I wouldn't ask too many questions, I would just thank the Lord for it and get on and enjoy your new-found delight in your body. I am 45 and have certainly had a much stronger sex drive over the last few years, and it has given me lots and lots and lots of pleasure. Elaine

I'm 37 and got off Birth control pills about six months ago. My sex life has really changed for the better since then. I don't know if I am just hitting my sexual peek or if the pills had that much to do with it, but DH and I are both thankful. I have also gained about 20 lbs. in the last few years, I just wish I was this active in bed when I was skinny. lol
