Sexologist?

I was wondering if anyone knew how to start looking for a sex therapist or a sexologist (is there a difference?). I'm 19 years old and have been having difficulties getting aroused, achieving orgasm, and just simply experiencing pleasure by myself and with my partner. I know that I'm capable of all these things, but for the past year or so it's been pretty difficult, especially during sex. I also have a rough sexual history which I think is still weighing on me and that I'd like to get sorted out. I don't know anyone who has gone through sex therapy, and people who might know someone or know someone who knows someone (aka my parents) I am not comfortable talking to.

Hi nuevayork35:

Well, you might e-mail or phone www.plannedparenthood.org or www.plannedparenthood.com.

Check through your insurance company for a list of their mental health specialists so that it will be covered. You might have to pay a small co-pay with each visit but therapy can be very expensive otherwise.

I agree with Tish though. If you've experienced past sexual trauma, then you need some emotional and medical support via a psychologist or psychiatrist, not a sex therapist.
