Hi,

I am 45 years old and have always been able to orgasm during intercourse. Now, for no apparent reason, I can no longer do that. It's as if my clitoris has lost its sensitivity, though my libido is just fine. I am wondering what reasons there might be for this and what, if anything, I can do about it. I am on the pill. Could that have such an effect?

Thanks. That sounds like a good idea. I was already contemplating it and I will do it. If you don't mind my asking, what other non-hormonally based BC forms are you thinking of switching to?

Welcome to the board, jsb3463.

Birth control pills can have an impact on you. It sounds like they might be affecting how aroused you become. Even if it's a pill that you've been on for a while, your own body goes through changes, and it may be time to see about getting on a different pill or a different type of BC.

Thanks. I don't know much about different varieties of the pill. I understand some have more estrogen or progestin. Which is meant to decrease sexual sensation? Again, it isn't lack of arousal or drive. It's just like I don't have enough sensitivity anymore.

Are you thinking about having more children? I know some woman still choose to in their 40's. If not have you considered having your tubes tied? Also, could it be possible you are starting menopause? I would talk to your Gyn about this.
