What do You Celebrate?

Not that we have ever celebrated this before, but it's something I always remember ....

DH asked me to marry him 17 years ago tonight! For the first time since then, we celebrated by going out to dinner. The spa is heating .... and I hope to add to the 1,000 nights thread ;-)

What sort of things do you and your partner celebrate?

Well pretty much right now, since we've been dating less than a year, we usually go out to eat or to a movie or something fun on our monthly "anniversaries" lol.

Oh and congratulations on the 7 years since engaged anniversary! Oh and

Besides the usual (birthdays, wedding anniversary, holidays like Christmas, Valentines Day, etc.), my dh remembered the anniversary of our engagement by giving me a lovely lace chemise--which I promptly wore, of course!

Congratulations Misty on 17 years!

I think its sweet to remember special moments and memorable events that are not the norm.

I'd love to hear whether he did anything special when he proposed 17 years ago? Was it a bended knee proposal, or was it more a "lets gets hitched girl" proposal?

Here's to many more nights of great loving!

Cheers!

It's cool that he remembered something like that though! I have always marked that day on my calendars, but I usually just silently smile about it. I don't think hubby would have guessed in a million years what significance that day had, LOL.

He is definitely the bended knee type of guy, but this was a little odd. His original plan was to have the proposal inside of a fortune cookie at dinner, but he was too impatient! Instead, he lived a few doors down from me, and when he came home, I was sitting on my front porch. He was carrying a box with a gift in it for his daughter. Anyway, I had just woken from a nap; was still rather groggy. He motioned for me to come and see what he had in the box. So, we went into his house and he showed me .... it was a gerbil for his daughter. After showing me, he sat the box on his coffee table and started walking toward the kitchen to get us drinks. After a few steps, he stopped and turned and said, "oh yeah, I got this for you", reached in his pocket and pulled out the ring. LOL. I just asked "is that real"? LOL.

He then got on his knee and asked me if I'd marry him. We celebrated that night with friends at a Chinese restaurant, and oddly enough, we both remember much of the conversation from dinner that night. He was really nervous about buying the ring. He had visited the jeweler several times and finally picked a stone and had it set. He knew he was picking it up that day, but according to him, he sat in the car for a good 10 minutes before going in the jewelry store. He was somewhere between a bundle of nerves and a little kid on Christmas morning!

We really don't celebrate any occasions.
