I'm about 75 pages in and I'm loving it. I was concerned that I had waited too long to read it and my expectations would be too high. I can see why this was a difficult book to turn into a movie. The chapter heading with their ages helps a great deal. From some of the reviews that

Hi Kathie....I have not planned to see the movie but that may change once it's available on DVD. However I usually am always disappointed with movie remakes of books...they usually are not anywhere as good IMO. However I think I certainly would give more thought into trying a weekly TV series so please let me know if you hear this is a reality. Glad you are enjoying it so far. Keep reading. It's intense but worth it.
