How Long Until I'm Naive?

Here goes... In about the middle of Summer 2005, I've met this guy through my friend's boyfriend (His brother). He's had a girlfriend for about a year and a few months. They always argue, she even cheated on him a few times and they pretty much have no trust in their relationship. So me and him started hanging out, since i was always at my friend's house and her boyfriend (my friend's brother) was always there too so they'd just come by together.
We hung out all summer (He even broke up with her, but after her mom drove to his house and yelled at him, saying he couldn't do this to her daughter, that she loved him, they got back together). Now, in January 2006, we're still hanging out pretty much every night. He talks about a future with me. He even told me he loved me. Says that him and his girlfriend aren't going to last long at all, that he's sick of her.
But... After 5 months of him saying all that stuff to me, when am I being the naive one? We have never "been together" or anything. I love him as a person, and I could easily fall in love with him. I'm just not sure if I should keep hoping or just give up.
Please Help. Thank you.

You want the truth?
"He even broke up with her, but after her mom drove to his house and yelled at him, saying he couldn't do this to her daughter, that she loved him, they got back together"
You became naive the very moment you believed that. It may have happened, this girls mother might have yelled at him, but when you believed that THAT is why he got back together with her you crossed into the Land Of Naivety. But just for poops and giggles lets meander in the Land of Naivety and go with it. Now you've got a guy so weak and spineless that he'd willingly re-enter a relationship with a girl whos mother browbeats him. Whew, what a pansy. Sure will make great husband and father material. That's just what every woman wants, a wimp.
Now back to reality. Why do you find a guy who isn't available to give you a real relationship appealing?
