Is this a red flag -- or paranoia

I'm wondering if I am mistaking the following occurance for being a red flag:

A good guy friend of mine was coming through my town for work. I had previously told the guy that I'm dating (approx. 1 month) about him and about how the guy is one of my best friends. My boyfriend (we'll call him that to make it easier to tell the story, but we haven't made that commitment yet) said that he was stopping by to meet him on his way home. He called and said that he had to do some other stuff before he left work. So, I told him that my friend needed to pick up something from the mall, so we would just go ahead and go. My boyfriend started acting annoyed and saying things like 'so he can't go to the mall by himself?....didn't he pass the mall on his way?...why do you have to go to the mall with him?' It really bothered me. So, later when he called he asked 'how was the mall' I said fine and then we went on with our conversation as ususal. Is this reaction normal or over the top? Help??

He may have been trying to voice is insecurity, concern, frustration, uneasiness, in a poor way.... but if the roles were reversed and a woman was coming to stay with him, how would you feel?
