Perhaps, he's sincere and doesn't know how to break up with his girlfriend but something tells me that if he *really* wanted to be with you he would do anything to make that happen.
Being friends with your Ex-BF and having many mutual friends in common makes me believe that he has no intentions of breaking those connections either to be with you.
If I were you I would cut him off 100%. Have no contact. Let him know when he's ready for a relationship to let you know and if you're still available then see what happens.
