i met and fell in love with a wonderful guy about a month or so ago - love at first site thing. he's got all the qualities i've ever wanted in a man and mate. the only thing is, he's been out of prison since october 2007; he was in prison for 7 years (29 now)

You met and fell in love a month ago with someone who was in prison for seven years (hon, you don't get put in prison for seven years for smoking pot)

Now you want to help him because he shuts down emotionally.

You've known him for FOUR WEEKS. You need to get a grip and start making smart choices. When you date someone, you have to be smart about who you choose and how fast you go. I don't think either one was a good decision here.

Of course you should cut your losses, this isn't a healthy relationship. He was out of touch with reality for seven years and you now want to be his girlfriend and therapist.

You are far too trusting and give men far too much slack. This is a flaw. If you continue in relationships with this mindset, you will end up hurt emotionally - at the very least.

Sorry to sound harsh but your guy is not boyfriend material.
