Welcome to the board Gail,
My guess is going to be that these relationship aren't as strong as they seem or they are very co-depenedent relationships.
I think there is a lot of truth behind saying you can't truly be happy in a relationship unless you are happy with yourself.

Of course it's important to have a good relationship with yourself, whether or not you have a relationship with another. In fact, we have endless relationships, endless ways to give and receive love. An intimate, significant other is different of course. Check and see what your expectations are of an intimate love partner. Are they too high? Have you let go of residual fear and anger that may have arisen in your marriage? Are you afraid of being trapped once again? How do you really see relationships. It sounds as though it would be a good idea to have some sessions with a well trained relationship therapist who could help you understand what's the block seems to be.
All good wishes,
