I've always had boy dogs and that's what I prefer, I don't know why. Sorry I wasn't much help!

My mother's had many many dogs. Male. Female. Whatever. In my knowledge, it doesn't matter the sex of the dog, but the type. I don't like the medium-small dogs because they're just motor-mouths! Big dogs are the best.

But I don't have dogs. Just two cats, and some fish. There are enough dogs in our neighborhood (and it's not like I don't have plenty of neighbors who have dogs I can pet/play with). And I like a little quiet in my home. And also...dogs are "expensive". They just are.

It totally depends on the dog's temperment. When we got our jack russell, we wanted a female (because they're usually less aggressive and easier to train). However, we ended up with a boy and he is an awesome dog!
Also, I've had female dogs before that were aggressive and would fight often (they came from bad homes and we had some issues retraining them).
My point- meet the dog's parents if possible, and take time to play with the dog/puppy. Read a few books about the breed and talk to people who own the same breed. There's some great books that tell you what to look for when picking a puppy and little tricks you can do to gage what kind of dog he/she will be.

But please, do research. Don't pick a dog based on whether it's a girl or a boy, it really doesn't matter about the sex since you want to find out about it's temperment and all that important stuff.
