The famous sappy love letter

I'm watching The Today Show and they had this guy on from London who apparently wrote an incredibly sappy love letter (email)

lol... I met a poet once and after our first meeting he would email the poems he wrote for me during the day. Truth is, we both got along quite well, but I being in a serious relationship at that time would not leave my guy for him.
But his poems made me smile, and feel warm and fuzzy inside. And even though we're not in touch anymore, I have kept them all, and when I feel just a little blue I like to re-read them.
As how I would react about receiving a sappy love letter? Say thank you with grace, weigh my options about seeing the guy, and then if I must decline, say so in the sweetest way. (or say that I'm already with someone)
I loved that kind of thing when I was 18-21, but I guess age has made me jaded. A letter like that after just one date would be a big turn off, and would strike me as insincere.
A letter like that after dating for several months/years would be really sweet, because it would come after the guy knows me much better and has something on which to base his feelings.

I WOULD LOVE IT!
But I am the sappy, romantic type. I delight in open displays of affection like that and would do that same thing for someone (in fact, I'm sure I have).
Sadly, those things never happen to me.
Ok, pouting over.
I had forgotten about this, but I did get a letter like that in college.
It was from a guy I didn't even know. He lived in the dorm next door to mine, and apparently had watched me for several months in the dining hall, on the grounds, etc. He found out my name from my R.A., and then left a long sappy letter in my mailbox - telling me how beautiful I was and how sweet I seemed.
It was incredibly creepy. I felt like I had been stalked. I also thought, "geez, why didn't you just come up and say hello??"

That's what I thought!
